painting the stairwell

Over the past few years, I’ve gotten really tired of the gray in our house. When I first painted it, I thought it was classy and clean looking. But post-pandemic, with both of us working at home, I want the house to feel light and airy.

Plus, the pictures weren’t hanging straight. They’d been knocked off the wall too many times, I think, and one of the larger frames had shattered, leaving a visual hole. The wall needed a good refresh.

I took down all the frames, patched the holes, and started rolling on my new favorite white paint, Snowbound by Sherwin Williams. In my opinion, it’s the perfect white — not too warm, not too cold. It feels modern but not stark. (It’s possible I think about paint way too much.)

It took a while to paint the ceiling, and we now have a lot of white paint dots on the stair runner, but the overall effect is fantastic. I love it!

I also spent some time thinking about the gallery wall. I bought a new frame to replace the one that broke and changed the layout a bit. What do you think?

This project probably took about 8 hours total (spread out over many days!), and the end result makes our whole house feel lighter. I’m so glad I did it!

What projects have you been up to this week? Let me know in the comments.
