vintage bathroom refresh

Our friends recently moved into a beautiful house near us, and I’ve taken it upon myself to come up with decor ideas for their consideration. I love thinking about the best ways to showcase their personalities and make their house shine. (And they’re very kind for putting up with my many ideas!)

Their house has lots of cool, unique touches, like the stained glass in the bathroom pictured below. They want to keep the glass and the vintage tile but replace the sink and the weird countertop thing over the toilet.

After seeing the room in person and talking to them about it, I’m picturing an old Hollywood theme. Glamour, a retro feeling, and black and white prints — what do you think? My inspiration is the amazing bathroom makeover featured on Emily Henderson’s blog.

These new homeowners like darker wall colors. Because we’re looking to keep the vintage feel, I looked at Sherwin Williams’ Historic Paint Colors Collection and found Orchid. Doesn’t it match the stained-glass window so perfectly?!

After that, I had some fun searching for updated fixtures and accessories that would play up the vintage feeling of the room and add glamour. I wanted to bring in black and white, since the floor is black and white basket weave tile, so I suggested the black toilet seat and the black and white shower curtain.

What do you think of this plan?

To play up the Hollywood glamour, we could frame black and white photos of old movie stars and hang them on the blank wall across from the sink. Wood frames would add a natural element, too, which is always a plus in my book.

Here are the sources, in case you’re curious.

  • wall sconce (I also really like this one, and it’s from the same company as the faucet, so the metals would be more likely to look the same.)
  • mirror (I’d go with minimal brass accents here, since it will be sandwiched between the brass light fixture and the brass faucet)
  • faucet
  • pedestal sink
  • black toilet seat
  • black and white shower curtain
  • shelf with black accent
  • wooden frames (Target has fantastic frames; I particularly like the ones with the big, white mats.)

More ideas for this amazing house coming soon. And many thanks to my friends for letting me go wild with their new home.
